The Idaho Senate passed Senate Bill 1042aa, which limits application fees landlords can charge prospective tenants. Co-sponsored by Sen. Ali Rabe, the bill aims to enhance rental affordability and prevent exploitation by landlords. It restricts landlords to charging fees for only two applicants at a time and only for available units. Additionally, landlords must complete background checks to charge related fees. The bill, which addresses concerns raised by nonprofits about application fee abuse, will now move to the Idaho House for consideration.
